SSC Photo & Signature Size

Direct answer: For SSC CGL 2025 you do not upload a photograph at all: the application module captures your photo live while you apply (§9.4 of the official notice), and uploading a photograph of an existing photograph is expressly not allowed (§9.5). The only file you upload is your signature — JPEG/JPG, 10 to 20 KB. The tool below is pre-loaded with exactly that window.

🔒 Your file is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded to a server — there is no server.

SSC — Photograph Live capture — there is no photograph upload for this portal. No photo upload exists: the application captures your photograph live. This is the point where most other websites mislead you: pages all over the internet still quote an "SSC photo 20–50 KB" upload size. That value does not appear in the current official notice — it is a leftover from older cycles, repeated from site to site. The current notice (Combined Graduate Level Examination 2025, dated 09-06-2025) designs the application to capture your photograph live, so there is no photo file to size, compress or upload.

For the live capture itself: sit facing a plain, well-lit background, look straight at the camera, and do not photograph an existing printed photo — §9.5 of the notice says that is not acceptable in any case.

One honest wrinkle, because checking is our whole job: the notice disagrees with itself about signature width. Section 9.6 says the signature image should be about 6.0 cm (width) × 2.0 cm (height), while Annexure-IV says about 4.0 cm × 2.0 cm. The file-size window — 10 to 20 KB in JPEG/JPG — is identical in both places, and that is the part this tool controls. If the portal's own checker measures your image, the 6.0 cm body-text figure is the safer reading.

Signature tips from the notice and hard experience: sign on plain white paper, scan or photograph it flat in good light, and keep the whole signature inside the frame with a small margin. Then fit it to 10–20 KB below.

Questions

What is the SSC photo size in KB?

There is none in the current cycle — SSC CGL 2025 captures your photograph live inside the application (§9.4). Any site quoting an SSC photo KB size is repeating an old cycle's value.

What is the SSC signature size?

Scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format, 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm (§9.6 of the CGL 2025 notice). Note the notice's own Annexure-IV says 4.0 cm wide — the KB window is the same either way.

Can I upload a photo of my printed photograph for the live capture?

No. §9.5 of the notice states that in no case should the candidate capture the photograph of a pre-existing photograph.

Where did you get these values?

From the official SSC CGL 2025 notice PDF on ssc.gov.in, read directly and checked on 2026-11-08. The link is in the spec table above.

Rejected anyway? Work through why portals reject files — the cause is usually the 1,000-vs-1,024 KB counting trap or dimensions, not the file size alone. See also all portal presets and how KBExact works.
